Eyebrow Routine | 2015

Hey guys!

A while back I was requested by a reader to do a blog post on how I do my eyebrows. I was super excited about the request, and of course I’d be more than happy to share my routine with you all. Now my eyebrows are nothing special but I do get compliments every now and then on their shape and look. To be honest, it has taken me a long time to master how to do them. However, I do feel that they are superrrr important and can make or break your make up look. You may have heard the saying “eyebrows are the frame to the face” and I totally agree. Take it from someone who was rocking a uni-brow for a long time. Eyebrows are a big deal. Hopefully you will pick up some tips from my pictorial below so that your eyebrows can be “on fleek”as well. hehe.

P.s. Half way through you will see my glasses come on. I have horrible eye-sight. Sad face.

Love you guys!!

Supplies:

anastasia brow pencil, anastasia brow gel, tweezers

Step 1: Prepping the Eyebrow

I would like to start off by saying that I always do my eyebrows first when I’m doing a full face of make up. It just works easier for me. However, you do what you feel most comfortable with. Now, after getting all of your supplies in place, the first thing you want to do is inspect your brows. I like to take a look back in the mirror and see what I have to work with.anastasia brow pencil, anastasia brow gel, tweezers, eyebrow

I start of by taking a spoolie and brush out my hair in the direction that it grows in. Then I take small scissors and cut down any hairs that are longer than the bunch. If you need to do this please be careful not to cut too much off.

Once the eyebrows are a bit more tamed, I like to take tweezers and clean up any small hairs that are hanging out where they shouldn’t and just try to clean up the brow even more. The more we can prep and clean up the brows the prettier they’ll look when you’re done.  After that I’ll take a facial razor and clean up around the brows. I am normally pretty hairy (I mean, what Hispanic isn’t?). So I’ll run the facial razor on my forehead and in between my brows in case I missed anything with the tweezers. This is also a great help if you are in a hurry.

Step 2: Filling

There are a few ways you can fill in your brows. You can use a powder (like an eye shadow or eyebrow powder), a brow pomade (gel-like cream similar to gel eye liner), or a brow pencil. I have used both powder and pencil and I like the brow pencil the best which is what I’m using today. An important thing you want to keep in mind is that you should choose a shade of eyebrow color that is about 2 shades lighter than your natural hair color. This helps us avoid the “chola” or ” Sharpe” eyebrow look that can be very harsh.

What I will do first is take my brow pencil and start to outline the top portion of my brow from the arch to the tail. I will do this again and start to make the upper arch area a bit more squared off.

After I’ve drawn that line I will do it again to make sure its a dark as I want it to be. I make sure I am filling in any gaps between my natural hair and the eyebrow line I just drew. I also will take the spoolie and run it through the whole brow a couple of times so that blends out the pencil and it doesn’t look as harsh compared to my natural hair.anastasia brow pencil, anastasia brow gel, tweezers, eyebrow

Next, I will take my brow pencil and start outlining the bottom of the brow in a similar way as I did on the top. I will also add some color on the inner brow. Do this last step lightly to avoid the harsher eyebrow look I was referring to earlier.anastasia brow pencil, anastasia brow gel, tweezers, eyebrow

Once I’m done it looks something like this:anastasia brow pencil, anastasia brow gel, tweezers, eyebrow

Note: If you are only wanting to fill your brows for a more natural look, as opposed to doing a full face of make up, this would be a good stopping place.

Step 3: Clean up

Once I’m done with filling in and shaping the brows, I will take a tiny bit of concealer and dab it on a stiff dome eye shadow brush. I will take that concealer and run it along side the bottom of the brow. This will not only clean up any brow pencil marks that are out of place but it will also highlight the brow bone area. Then taking the fluffy brush, I will buff out the concealer and blend it out.

Once I’ve done that on the bottom of the brow, I will do the same on the remaining edges of the brow. First carving out the brow with the concealer and then buffing it out.  anastasia brow pencil, anastasia brow gel, tweezers, eyebrow anastasia brow pencil, anastasia brow gel, tweezers, eyebrow

Step 4: Setting

Once my brows are cleaned up, filled, and carved out, I will do my final step. I like using a clear brow gel to set them in place. Think of it as hairspray for your brows. These babies will not move once you’ve gelled them down. I usually put one or two coats on.

and TA-DA! That’s my eyebrow routine. anastasia brow pencil, anastasia brow gel, tweezers, eyebrow

  1. Your eyebrows look great. They have a nice full look. Eyebrows are always something I am working to perfect. But I love this routine, I am not so handy with the tweezers so I usually go get them waxed then fill them in after, so you are a pro! Awesome tutorial.

  3. Great tutorial! I always have such a hard time doing my own eyebrows…My daughter has been bugging me to do hers and I will definitely be referring back when I sit down to do them! I also love that all the products you highlighted in this post were cruelty free! Good job!!!

  4. Great tips I use concealer on the brow bone but not on the top … so going to try this now! thanks.

Love your brows! My routine is similar. But when I’m being lazy it’s just brow wax to keep them tame and filling them in 😉 Which is usually what happens lol.
